The Basics of Coding
Want to learn the basics of coding and app development?  Below are links to websites that will get you started from K to 'infinity and beyond'.  It's never to late to learn a 'new language' for life.

Special Event at Andersen Elementary!!!  Join us for an Out of this World, Hour of Code Week & Family Night:  Week of Dec 7 through 11!

Picture
  • During the week of Dec 7 to 11, our school will take part in an hour of code.  Our GSP Primary Students will lead grades K-2 into the adventure of coding using Frozen Theme.  Our ATOMS students will lead grades 3-6 through a STAR WARS programming event which will be followed up in our STEM lab.

  • Students will also host an Star Wars, Introduction to Coding for families where THEY will present and teach!  To get started early...click below.
Code.org |  About   Try out Code.Studio Now !
Code.org sponsors our Hour of Code in December!  This link will lead you to the tutorials that will get you started anytime of the year. I recommend Tutorials for Beginners.  There are teaching videos along the way.  In STEM, we work on coding with grades K-6 and the students seems to love it!  Note:  You can actually look at the Java programming!  There is a box on the upper right.

Tynker  |  About
Tynker is another great programming site for students.  What I love is how the site is organized into areas of understanding (beginning to advanced) and has specific activities to target different content areas. However, there are areas in Tynker that are fee based.  Educators do get a free account!

If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.”
